Hopefully it's just water, but probably some chemicals are involved in the process, though...

Corrado, let's hope for those of us living in this area that there aren't too many chemicals involved. I would have said it was caused by some kids throwing rocks at the ice, but there aren't any rocks around beside this inner city canal. Maybe bubbles rising from below?

Thanks, I was a little more inspired the last few days; it's nice to have a break from the perpetual grey.
